The French Cross is a very common opening, which can be build up to
more possibilities - depending the situations in the game. The example
shown is the French Cross, where the running in backcourt takes the
shot at the center. The ball starts with RB, who passes to CB, who
receives the ball while running against the defending R2. Just before
this defending R2 CB turns and passes the ball to RB, who starts running
in at the moment the pass can be executed. RB must take care that
she does not get too close to the defense at it will be relatively easy
for the defending L2 to intercept the ball. RB attacks between the
defending L3 and L2 in order to pull those 2 together. CR puts up
a screening against the defending R3 and LB, who has started her running
in at the same time as RB can receive the ball and shoot between own
CR and the defending L3. During the execution of the French Cross
and its variants, there will come situations where a pass to own CR
is possible.
